Since the 1960s, the garment industry has been a key sector in Hong Kong. In recent years, the industry has adopted numerous new trends: heightened sustainability and environmental consciousness. Along with rising consumer desire for customization, the garment industry is fueling ongoing innovation across the field, rendering it a valuable industry for our members to explore.
Recently, our members had the opportunity to visit and interact with [Rhys Garment Workshop], a cutting-edge local apparel manufacturer. Rhys produces adaptive wear specifically designed for individuals with disabilities and the elderly, allowing caregivers to dress their loved ones more efficiently and swiftly. They also upcycle old clothing and give it a new life to become second-hand ready-to-wear; it makes a great contribution to protecting the environment. Their product designs reflect care and respect, and all these minor details significantly improve the functionality of each apparel.
During the visit, our members were able to witness and engage in the sewing process directly, obtaining significant inspiration for their career planning in the near future.
